After a great catch-up at the Christmas drinks we’re going to have another relaxed, no-agenda, no-actions get-together.

Christmas Drinks

This year’s had its ups and downs, and the main organisers of Transition Altrincham, Hale and Bowdon have been so busy that meetings have slipped. But we don’t want to let go of the great group of people who we’ve met – on and off – throughout the year.

So we’re going back to where it all started – drinks at the Cheshire Midland, Hale, 7.30pm, Monday 29th November.

Come along for a drink – no agenda or specific actions, just a good get together.

First-timers? I’ll make sure I have a Transition book on the table.

Hi everyone,

No monthly meeting this month as lots of peeps are on holiday. But I’ve been contacted by Abundance Manchester, a project which picks surplus or unwanted fruit from gardens and public trees around South Manchester and distributes it to local groups and communities.They’ve had calls from a couple of people in Hale who have trees which they can’t pick and/or has too much fruit for them.

If anybody else is interested I’d be happy to work with you to see if we can find a couple of hours in the next couple of weeks to see if we can go and pick some fruit!If you’d like to help out please contact me at ttahb@hotmail.co.uk and I’ll see if I can find a time for us all to do some picking….no firm commitment at this stage just let me know if you are interested- as we’d have to sort out things like ladders, boxes, pickers etc….but I don’t want to start organising anything if its just me…

Please let me know this week so I can get back to the Abundance team.

July 15th – TTAHB Monthly Meeting

Hi – well woosh that month went by quickly and our monthly open meeting has come around again already. It’s this Thursday 15th July and we’ve got Jacqui Brocklehurst, a local herbologist from Ridgeway Road Nursery coming to talk to us about the many uses of herbs and bring some in for us to see too.

We’re in The Hub again this month (The Hub, Pownall Road, Altrincham WA14 2SZ) and it all kicks off at 7.30pm. If you can’t make it you can find out more about Jacqui here http://www.colourmygarden.co.uk/

Hope to see some new faces again this month – we’ve been welcoming one or two new people each month which is great.

There’s no meeting in August due to holidays so if you can’t make this one we’ll see you in September

Visit to the Trafford Eco-House 17th June

Hi all, Just a quick reminder of our next Transition Town Altrincham, Hale & Bowdon meeting which is this Thursday, June 17th.

We’re doing a visit to the Trafford Eco-House to look at how we’re trying to prepare a 3-bed thirties house for a post-peak-oil life. All welcome!

Venue: Trafford Eco House, 107, Clough Avenue, Sale M33 4HT (Last house on Clough Avenue, with a red door. Cycle parking is available. Bus stop is Washway Road/The Drive, Closest Tram is Timperley (15 mins).

Time: 7.30 – 8.30

Screening of “A Farm for the Future“ – Wildlife film maker Rebecca Hosking investigates how to transform her family’s farm in Devon into a low energy farm for the future, and discovers that nature holds the key. With her father close to retirement, Rebecca returns to her family’s wildlife-friendly farm in Devon, to become the next generation to farm the land. But last year’s high fuel prices were a wake-up call for Rebecca.
Realising that all food production in the UK is completely dependent on abundant cheap fossil fuel, particularly oil, she sets out to discover just how secure this oil supply is. Alarmed by the answers, she explores ways of farming without using fossil fuel. With the help of pioneering farmers and growers, Rebecca learns that it is actually nature that holds the key to farming in a low-energy future

Hi all - please feel free to invite anybody to our meetings who might be interested,

The whole point of this group is for us to take collective action locally and our Food Group is already doing great stuff on lobbying to bring some unused land back into allotment use. If you’ve been watching from the edges from now then our Open Meetings are a great way to get involved so do come along and say hello – we are very friendly bunch and you aren’t going to get signed up to do anything you don’t want to. We normally just discuss a few issues and then mull things over in the pub afterwards……

Andrew Leask – one of TTAHB’s members lives in the Trafford Eco House – which has its own blog here http://traffordecohouse.wordpress.com/ and is Andrew and his family’s attempts to green their pre-war house in Sale. We’ll probably try and do some lift shares from Altrincham to the site and back so if you can make the meeting and would like or can offer a lift please post a message.

Thursday 15th July – topic tbc – The steering group has got a couple of ideas of speakers who might be able to attend but we’d really like to hear from you about what you are interested in and if there are any films you’d like to see or topics you’d like to discuss so please do get in touch.
